Grasse is classified as a CITY OF ART AND HISTORY.
It is granted by the Ministry of Culture to cities with an outstanding historical heritage.
You can visit several museums, including the Museum of Fragonard Perfumery which is one of the most visited.
Grasse was the prefecture of the Var department before the annexation of Nice to France in the middle of the nineteenth century and the creation of the Maritime Alps department.
Formerly a city of tanners, during the time of the Medici it becomes the capital of perfumes. Mixed with roses and jasmines the most cultivated, are the aromas of lavender, orange blossom, violet, hyacinth and mimosa.
